January 2017 Boo Art in Residence for Power Plant Kids! by Art ByBoo

22 DECEMBER 2016 - As part of its Power Youth Program, The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery is pleased to introduce the new Winter 2017 Power Youth Artists-in-Residence, BOO. The Power Plant's Power Youth outreach program helps youth gain a better understanding of contemporary art practices and awareness of cultural resources while giving them an opportunity to discuss the issues impacting their lives. Now in its third year, the program consists of a 14-week contemporary art studio workshop at Boys and Girls Clubs in the Weston-Mount Dennis and Regent Park neighbourhoods that connects youth to exhibitions at The Power Plant.

Artists-in-Residence are selected through a process which heavily involves the youth of the individual Boys and Girls Clubs, who develop the selection criteria and interview the candidates. Along with Boo, Youth will express their cultural history—lived or imagined—and hopes for the future of their communities through stickers, graffiti and other public art.
